Describe the job precisely
Explain whether new loose tyres will be fitted to existing rims or complete wheels will simply be changed. Give the vehicle, wheel size and special equipment such as direct tyre-pressure monitoring. The workshop needs the actual combination to quote meaningfully.
If supplying tyres yourself, confirm acceptance before buying. Some businesses charge differently for this work or do not accept externally purchased tyres. Agree direct supplier delivery as well. A low goods price is of little help if the planned fitting service is unavailable afterwards.
Make the services visible
Ask whether removal of old tyres, fitting, balancing and installation on the car are included. Valves or appropriate sensor service components may be separate. Disposal and any requested storage are also distinct services. A quotation containing only the word fitting leaves these questions unanswered.
Establish what happens if additional issues are found. If a wheel appears damaged or a sensor needs replacement, agree when the workshop should contact you. A clear authorisation process prevents misunderstandings more effectively than a vague instruction to do everything regardless of scope.
Compare like with like
Use the same number of wheels and the same services when comparing offers. Check whether figures apply per wheel or per set and which further charges are explicitly stated. The meaningful figure is the expected complete amount for your job. One low line item can otherwise distort the comparison.
Appointment timing, location and included follow-up checks may matter too. Describe those differences without automatically converting price into a quality ranking. A higher price does not prove better work, and a lower one does not prove completeness. The written service description provides the basis for a fair comparison.
Reconcile at collection
Compare the invoice with the agreed quotation. Ask about additional items and record what was actually performed. Clarify any outstanding monitoring-system work and vehicle-specific instructions for further use. Establish the return of locking wheel-bolt tools or removed parts too.
Keep the quotation and invoice together. At the next visit, they let you request the same services or deliberately change the scope. The benefit extends beyond comparing prices: a precise description reduces the chance that the customer and workshop use the same word for two different jobs. If another person delivers or collects the car, give them the agreed scope so that the handover remains consistent with the original arrangement.
