Read the sidewall statement
A Max Load statement identifies a maximum tyre load under its associated technical conditions. Units or pressure information often appear alongside it. Read the complete context. The figure is not automatically the loading allowance of the whole car or its permitted maximum mass.
The load index in the usual service description also corresponds to capacity. Both must relate to the actual product. If figures appear inconsistent or several arrangements are listed, have them interpreted professionally rather than selecting the largest value.
The vehicle has its own limits
Permitted mass, axle loads and other limits come from vehicle documents. A higher-capacity tyre does not alter them. The wheel also has its own suitability requirements. Considering one component alone cannot authorise extra cargo.
Multiplying the sidewall value by four is not a general payload calculation. The vehicle itself needs supporting and loading is not necessarily equal at each position. For frequent heavy use, actual weighing is more informative than assuming four equal wheel loads.
Pressure belongs to the application
Use the prescribed cold pressure for vehicle and loading. A number beside Max Load should not become the everyday target without interpretation. Where technical tables are used, they must match construction and application.
Extra inflation cannot remedy overloading. A tyre driven after pressure loss is not automatically fully serviceable once a nominal reading is restored. Relevant history calls for condition assessment.
Ask specific questions about an offer
Have the complete size, load and speed version confirmed. Advertising unusually high capacity does not establish suitability. Compare appropriate variants only after the technical question is resolved.
Keep the confirmed tyre specification and vehicle loading information separately identified but accessible together. This preserves the distinction between a component figure and the limits governing actual vehicle use. It also helps another driver avoid mistaking a prominent sidewall number for permission to fill every available luggage space without checking weight.
Confirm uncertain figures before loading or replacing any tyre.
