The impact is only the beginning of the account
Record which wheel was involved and what you have noticed since. Vibration, altered steering behaviour and pressure loss give the workshop useful information. None proves a bent rim by itself: the tyre, suspension and fasteners may also be involved. A small scratch on the outer face reveals little about an impact on the inner rim edge.
Do not search for a particular speed that makes a vibration more noticeable while driving. If the vehicle feels unsafe, loses pressure rapidly or has visible damage, arrange professional assessment or roadside assistance. A longer test drive may cause further damage and is not required before making a workshop appointment.
What needs to be distinguished
Imbalance and a distorted wheel are not the same problem. Balance weights correct mass distribution; they do not straighten metal. A workshop can measure wheel run-out and remove the tyre where needed to inspect hidden areas. Ask whether the tyre has also been assessed for impact damage and whether the suspension needs checking.
Request an explanation of the findings: where is the deviation, how was it identified, and what decision follows? A general claim that a wheel can be straightened does not establish that a particular treatment is permitted and appropriate for this wheel. Hammering, heating or welding an unknown deformation at home is not a suitable solution.
Choose a replacement by specification
If replacement is necessary, compare the complete wheel identification and its approval for the vehicle. Matching diameter, spoke count and colour are not sufficient. A used wheel with the right markings still needs its condition assessed; a sales photograph does not establish its history.
Keep photographs and the workshop findings, especially if other symptoms emerge later. On collection, establish whether the cause of the original complaint has been addressed or only one part of the job has been completed. A new tyre fitted to the wheel does not by itself confirm that the rim runs correctly. Have unresolved points clarified before undertaking the next longer journey.
